The Gloucestershire Way
Stage 4: Ford to Stow-on-the-Wold
Richard, Marie, Mick, Lesley, Malcolm and Terry met in Stow on the Wold car park and walked to the centre to catch the bus for Ford. Bus passes presented our driver pulled away, he was a pleasant volunteer driver not often on the route, hence we ended having to negotiate that he should in fact go to Ford as the timetable stated and not branch off to Temple Guiting a mile from Ford.
Starting out from The Plough, it was a cold but pleasant morning enhanced by some spectacular race horses passing us at a canter as we walked up towards Jackdaw's Castle, Jonjo following them in the Land Rover. The walk gave us some great views with glorious sun and blue sky, whilst the frost had made the previous muddy areas firm to walk on. When walking on the tarmac lanes then we had to be careful as they were very slippy. Having passed through Condicote and by Donnington Trout Farm due homage was paid to the next landmark, Donnington Brewery! On through Upper Swell and the final steady climb to Stow arriving at about 1.00pm.
